Witness Fireboy Matlau - Piano, Drums, Saxophone

 Witness graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2015, with a degree in Performance, Jazz Compositions and a minor in Philosophy. A Jazz pianist, composer, performer and bandleader, Witness also studied at the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, founded by a Grammy award winning pianist and composer Danilo Perez. He has studied with Joe Lovano, John Patitucci, Dave Liebman, Terri Lyne Carrington, Allan Pasqua, Ben Street, to mention a few. 

Witness found himself on a long journey of evaluating the nature of music, purpose and role it plays in life. Influenced by the piano sounds of Abdullah Ibrahim, Bheki Mseleku, Moses Molelekwa, Hugh Masekela and other great South African musicians, Witness went to study music at the University of Kwazulu- Natal- Durban, along the South east coast of South Africa. Following a scholarship to study in the US, he spent a year at Drake University in Des Moines Iowa, then a full scholarship to Berklee College of Music.

Witness has performed with around the world including appearances at the  Des Moines Arts Festival, the Twin Cities Jazz Festival , the  Des Moines Jazz Festival, Netherlands' North Sea Jazz Festival, Dizzy’s Jazz Club- Lincoln Center, the Monterey Jazz Festival, with the Berklee Global Jazz Ambassadors, featuring a Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Joe Lovano,  with acclaimed jazz drummer and composer Antonio Sanchez, and the acclaimed bassist John Patitucci, John Lockwood and drummer Joe Hunt.

 Witness believes that music allows us the opportunity to exercise valuable tools and keep us in touch with values that will help us succeed in life and that music is an essential part of a children's education.
